The face is the most recurring word in this passage. The phrase "the eyes are the windows to the soul," can be tied to this passage because the face is the window to onesself. Faces have been focused on since the renaissance. The mirror and paintings were originally how we identified our selfs, but now with the advancements in technology we are able to take selfies. Selfies allow us to see our own face and allow us to be able to reflect upon ourselves. As Fausing states, in the image of ourselves, our external face meets our internal self or conscious. Another aspect of the self-reflecting is whether or not we are good enough. We analyze the pictures of us and decide if we are pretty enough or adequate as a person compared to others. There is a developemental stage in a child's life called the mirror stag where this occurs. A selfie is the adult version of this. We post selfies to express ourselves and seek acceptance at the same time. A selfie is of the face because this describes us and expresses us. A picture of a foot or ear wouldn't exactly portray you a person. It might look pretty weird on someone's instagram feed too.
