This essay interested me right off the bat because tattoos intrigue me. The each have a story, meaning, or expression behind them. I myself have a tattoo of a quote that reads, "Dream without fears, Love without limits". This quote reminds me that no matter what I go through I can't give up and I can't hold back. I really enjoyed that in this essay she described how all of her tattoos were meaningful to her religion. I also found it really interesting that her first tattoo happened when she converted to Eastern Orthodoxy. As she grew in her religion, her tattoos became less covered and more out in the open. Her first one could be covered with a bathing suit, her second one would be seen in a sleeveless shirt, and her third is always visible for the world to see. I believe this transition show her growth in her faith. As the church she grew with the church, her tattoos became a display of her religion. Now, whenever someone sees the butterfly tattoo on her wrist, she can tell them all about her beliefs. This message hit me hard because I have always kept my beliefs to myself, and this has inspired me to be more open to people about it, as well as being more open to God.
